Bhu Devi (IBS232)
An extremely fine and old image of Vishnu's consort Bhu Devi. Sometimes she is referred to as Parvati. This image dates from the 15th Century and has a wonderful patina. Verdigris has begun to form and the bronze is a lovely dark colour.
Images of this size and quality are rare to find today so we are pleased to offer this for sale. We will not see the like outside of a museum or high quality art gallery.
There is no damage and very little wear, as can be seen from the photos. A very small amount of bronze loss appears at the left front of the base but other than it is in near perfect condition. There is a sticker attached to the underside that reads "32 BYY" which would indicate that it came from a collection of some sort, maybe private, maybe a museum. A further sticker is attached saying "6.." which appears to be applied over the top of writing/pen marks. We aquired it many years ago from a London dealer.
