Standing Narasimha (IBS307)
Description
We know four different forms of Narasimha, LakshmiNarasimha, YogaNarasimha, ViraNarasimha and UgraNarasimha and the availability of these examples is declining according to this list. So this Viranarasimha is definitely of the rarest to find. Here we see the avatar of Vishnu holding the conch and chakra, his lower arms in Abhaya and Varada mundra. He is showing us we should not fear Him as he is offering us his boon.
The quality of this piece is excellent with some wear that is consistent with age and veneration. The cobra prabhavali is sadly missing but we do not mind when we can gaze on such a rare icon. The patina is wonderful with verdigris forming consistently all over. It does stand a little to one side (right) but this is how it was originally cast and not caused through any damage. The photographs exaggerate this slightly. A very special icon.
