Mahaganapati (IBS286)

Description

This form Ganesh is not the most common and in this size very rare. Here we see Lord Ganesh with his consort. Who the consort is is much debated. In some instances she if referred to as Buddhi and in others Siddhi. Sometimes she is named Sarasvati and in some cases Lakshmi. In Ganesha 8 upper arm he hold various attributes and by his side is the rat, his Vahana (vehicle). The way in which He holds the butterball in his trunk is delightful.

This was a much loved piece and has been subjected to much veneration. The faces are worn and some of the attributes are unrecognisable but it remain a very beautiful and powerful piece, and a great size. The patination is incredible.
