Jain Shrine of Tirthankara (IBS283)
Description
This is a very fine example of Jain shrine. It depicts the Jina Tirthankara. He is sat in dhyanasana pose surrounded by Jinas, supported by 2 lions. He is flanked by yakshi and yaksha. Above his head is a typical parasol/canopy. On the reverse side is an inscription.
We have dated this as 16th century but it is quite possible that it is earlier. It is in excellent condition with no damage. There is some wear through worship but this is to be expected.
In a sea of fakes it is always a pleasure to come across the genuine article.
