Umamaheshvara (Shiva) (IBS279)
Description
This is a very beautiful and substantial piece of Shiva with his consort Parvati. In this form it is known as Umamaheshvara. Uma is a name for Parvati where she is depicted as the Golden One.
In this image we see Shiva in typical south Indian style. He is holding the Axe and Antelope attributes. Sat upon his knee is Uma/Parvati. In Shiva's hair is the goddess Ganga, symbol of the Ganges river.
It is in near perfect condition with no damage and very little wear to the detail. Images of this size are extremely rare and it is doubtful that we will ever come across another.
If your collection/shrine is missing a fine example of Umamaheshvara this represent an excellent example.
