Lakshminarasimha (Inset) (IBS262)
Occasionally we come across a piece that takes our breath away. This beautiful early 17th century Narasimha is one of those occasions. It is simply stunning. Narasimha is a fairly rare icon in bronze and to have had the pleasure of this one for many years has been a wonder and source of much admiration.
Here we see Narasimha with his consort Lakshmi sat upon a very nicely styled base. They are protected by a 7 headed naga. Often the naga is broken but here it is complete. Lakshmi's eyes and belly button are inset with red jewels, as are the eyes of the 7 nagas. Narashima's eyes and belly button are also inset with red jewels but he also has white jewels inset in his forehead, mouth and chakra. Although we have not had the 'jewels' tested we believe them more likely to be paste rather than genuine diamonds and rubies but can not say for sure and offer no warranty as such. It will be up to the lucky purchaser to determine this.
The detail of this piece is amazing with very little damage or wear. It is a very impressive size.
