Saint Vedanta Desika (IBS237)
A fine image of the saint Vedanta Desika. This Swami was born in Thooppul, near Tiruttangaa (Himavanam) adjacent to the temple of Deepa Prakaasar in Kanchipuram. He is one of the most famous Acharya and renowned for his writing, poetry and explaination of the Bhagavad Gita.
As can be seen from the photos there is some minor damage to the back of the base. There is also some bronze loss on the base and on the right hip but that is expected of older pieces. It stands best with a little support to the rear of the base.
A good old piece.
p.s. Because of the folk art nature f this piece it is quite possible that originated from Karnataka.
