Ganapatideva (IBS218)
Description
Images of Ganesha and a consort are quite rare, normally he is depicted alone. Here we see him with consort on his lap and with 10 arms. This form of Ganesha is often referred to as Ganapatideva. Who the consort is is much debated. In some instances she if referred to as Buddhi and in others Siddhi. Sometimes she is named Sarasvati and in some cases Lakshmi. All this said this is a rare image.
There are obvious signs of worship but the piece retains a very real presence. No damage.
