Standing Balakrishna (IBS258)
Description
It always amazes us how such small items could be cast with this incredible detail. This 15th century standing image of Balakrishna is no exception. Considering its small size the detail is fantastic, as we would expect from a period that produced the best bronzes. It is a testament to the skill and devotion of the artist of the time.
Here we see the infant Krishna stood holding a butter ball in each hand. The form is typical of the period, with pot-belly and voluptuous limbs.
As can be seen from the photos verdigris has formed all over and there is little sign of worship, so an excellent example. The patination is beautiful. Such pieces are very rare to come by and we are pleased to be able to offer this for sale.
