Description

As everywhere in central India Mahishsuramardini is famous and much venerated in Orissa. It is rare to find such good quality as this in later periods and one in such perfect conditions.

This bronze was certainly part of a bigger group and we presume that it was damaged or Mahisha was seperated from the group. This can be a fairly good explanation why She is in such perfect condition. Her minor hands never held attributes so none of them are broken or lost.

She came from a German collection that was originally aquired during the 60s or 70s which corresponds with the age of the wooden base she is mounted on.
