In all the years of collecting and selling Indian bronzes this is the finest quality Lakshminarasimha we have ever seen. It is exquisite. It dates from early 18th century Karnataka. The detail is fantastic with little sign of wear. Although a devotional piece we have to consider that because of the beauty it was not on an altar for very long. There are some signs of wear but not much. Maybe someone brought it back from India as a work of art? It is in the best condition anyone could ever hope for.

The detail is excentuated with gold and inlaid rubies. Although these have not been tested we are as confident as we can be that they are genuine. No guarantee is offered to their authenticity but why would we question such a stunningly beautiful piece? Even if they are not it does not change the simple fact this is a piece a true rarity and exceptional quality. It was aquired from a London dealer a few years ago and even to this day the dealer still mentions it whenever we meet.

Narasimha is shown in a typical style. His consort, Lakshmi, seated on the left knee and his lower left arm around her slender waist. Both Gods are cast with such detail it is breath taking to look at. Whoever made this piece did so with unimaginable devotion and skill. We will not see an item like this ever again outside of a museum.

Although it has been a centrepiece of our private collections for a few years (we have had it for 6 years) needs must, and we feel now is the right time to see if someone else would care to take on ownership of such a fantastic piece of art and Indian history. It has been a pleasure to gaze and hold it for the few years we have been lucky enough to care for it. Now is a good time for it to move on.
